Why did I join BRS?
I was offered the opportunity to take an EMT class by my employer, who was located in Branchburg. After starting the class, I realized that the skills I was learning would be wasted if I didn’t use them on a regular basis. When I approached my employer, they allowed me to join the Rescue Squad and to respond to calls from work.
Why have I stayed?
Since becoming an EMT, I have had the chance to see the impact first responders have on both our patients, and on their families. Every time someone calls 9-1-1, they have decided that they are not able to handle whatever is facing them, and have asked for our help. Being able to provide that help, whether it be caring for a life-threatening injury or illness, or just being there for emotional support in a time of need, is truly rewarding.
How have I benefited from serving with BRS?
As a direct result of becoming an EMT and serving with Branchburg Rescue, I was able to expand my professional responsibilities – which allowed me to change career paths when my employment situation changed.

Why did I join BRS?
I’ve always wanted to join a fire department or rescue squad. Two of my family members are involved in Fire and EMS, and after riding along on a call with their agency, I saw how rewarding it is to help others in need. That experience inspired me to join EMS, and BRS gave me the perfect opportunity to give back to my community while learning new skills.
Why have I stayed?
I’ve stayed because of the profound impact we have as first responders. Being there for people during their most vulnerable moments is incredibly rewarding. Emergencies can happen to anyone, and being someone they trust for help is an experience I deeply value.
How have I benefited from serving with BRS?
BRS has helped me grow by learning from experienced members and developing new skills. I’ve also had opportunities to take on leadership roles, earn scholarships, and build character that will serve me in both EMS and beyond.

Why did I join BRS?
I joined the Branchburg Rescue Squad in 1999 to broaden my scope of Emergency Services. I was a firefighter for 2 years previously and could not get enough of the Emergency Services. Riding an ambulance sounded like a real challenge to me that I wanted to pursue.
Why have I stayed?
IIt has always felt like family at the Branchburg Rescue Squad. I have enjoyed making a difference in the lives of those who live, work, and commute through Branchburg Township. Thinking back on all the calls I have gone on with the rescue squad and all the lives I have touched in some way, I feel blessed to be apart of this organization.
How have I benefited from serving with BRS?
I am a 25 year veteran of Somerset County Communications, the dispatch center that handles Branchburg’s 911 calls. People call me at work and while I volunteer with the Rescue Squad on their worst days, and I feel grateful to make those days just a little better for them. Helping others in their time of need gives me great satisfaction at the end of the day.
